Continuous Improvement Delivers Excellent Payoffs

Business owners know that the best way to strive for success is to keep improving, one department at a time, one person at a time, one product, service or process at a time. Continuous improvement is the key to moving forward and it falls to every stakeholder, manager and employee to apply efforts towards that goal.

In 2018, Tennant Company’s Director of New Development, Stephanie Westphal presented on The Journey of Continuous Improvement at the Savvy Consortium conference in the US, along with representatives from numerous other global organisations. The consortium is made up of Product Development and Engineering Managers who exchange ideas and collaborate for the purpose of finding better, easier and more innovative ways to get things done.

Stephanie’s presentation outlined Tennant’s own continuous improvement pathway over the previous years. She explained the importance of strengthening processes, investing in necessary tools, implementing best practice, offering training and setting and revising expectations.

What does continuous improvement mean for business owners or cleaning professionals?
It’s important to never lose sight on the key elements that fortify a business from the ground up. Any organisation’s people, tools and processes are fundamental to its ability to grow and achieve success.
  • Provide ongoing training for your people.
  • Ensure best practices are clearly outlined and duly adhered to.
  • Equip your people with the right tools to function at peak productivity
  • Regularly revise processes to determine if they could be altered to meet new demands or changes in products, services or other factors.
Fostering continuous business improvement typically pays dividends in the form of increased profits, more satisfied and motivated employees and fewer avoidable setbacks.
