Want to streamline your manufacturing process? Follow these 3 tips.

Want to streamline your manufacturing process? It’s always a good idea to simplify your business, cut costs, and improve efficiency. It means you’ll make the most of your resources while improving your field - leading to better profits and more sustainable operations.

But what does that actually look like in practice?

We’ve worked with hundreds of manufacturing industry clients and have helped them boost efficiency through a cleaner and safer work environment. And along the way, we’ve picked up some practical tips that these clients have used to streamline their manufacturing process.

Here are our top 3 tips...

#1 Examine your processes
The first step is to figure out where potential inefficiency is coming from. You can’t streamline your manufacturing process until you know what your processes are. Write down every step in the process and then zoom out and ask yourself and your team:

  • Is there anything here that doesn’t add value? (Stop doing it)
  • Is there anything missing that could make the process better? (Add it)
  • Where is there leakage and waste? (Change it)
  • What could we upgrade to speed up the process? (Upgrade it)
  • Are we maximising output from our resources? (Think creatively)
  • How else could we handle waste so that it becomes useful? (Look for internal and external uses)

Start making the changes you need in order to improve efficiency in your processes.

#2 Step up the level of clean
A clean work environment means streamlined manufacturing processes. When everything is maintained to a cleaner standard, you have fewer safety issues, better quality outputs, happier staff, and more uptime.

But how do you improve the standard of cleanliness without tying up even more of your staff members’ time?

One of the best solutions is to automate your cleaning processes as much as possible. This means no more mop and bucket - it’s time to bring out the big guns. Cutting out manual cleaning in your factory means you’ll get the cleaning done faster, to a higher standard, and for lower costs (once you add up the labour savings).

Our most popular cleaning equipment for manufacturing clients is our ride-on scrubber-sweepers, like the M20 & M30. Both of these machines are easy to run, operate, and maintain (and kind of fun, too).

#3 Simplify your offers
Less is more. Especially when you want to streamline your manufacturing processes. If you’re offering too many products, it can hold back your whole operation with excess inventory, expensive custom work, extra steps, and more complex sales processes. If you can simplify your product offering, your whole operations will benefit because you can focus on what you do best, get known for that, and fine-tune your systems around just a small handful of products. It’s probably the best way to cut costs and improve profits in your company.

Assess. Clean. Simplify.

To sum it up, if you want your operations to remain profitable and sustainable, you can’t afford not to streamline your manufacturing processes. Don’t feel overwhelmed by everything that’s involved. Start with an overall review of what your operations look like, look for quick wins to instantly improve your processes, invest in better equipment, and then look at simplifying wherever possible.
