6 Commercial Carpet Trends

As 2018 draws to a close, it’s been evident that the year has seen a range of carpet trends evolve to match technological advancements. Carpeted floors have to take rigorous treatment in commercial applications and so floor covering manufacturers are continually researching and developing cutting edge products to meet specific needs.
  1. Upcycled materials - An enormous proportion of new carpet products is now being manufactured out of recycled materials. PET plastic drink bottles are being upcycled into locally produced carpets. It takes roughly 50-60 two-litre bottles to create one square metre.
  2.  Engineered carpets - Now available in Australia and New Zealand are new, locally produced 100% waterproof carpets, engineered to deflect stains and prevent liquid spills from reaching the cushion or subfloor. Scientific engineering of carpet is delivering smart products with properties that address acoustic performance, light reflectance and soil-, crush- and fire-resistance.
  3. Carpet tiles - Carpet tiles were big business in the 70s and 80s, but they never went away. They’re still a popular choice for commercial applications because they’re easily installed, cost-effective and can be swapped out very simply if damaged or stained. 2018 has seen a swing towards rectangular and even hexagonal tiles, instead of the traditional square.
  4. Texture choices - Carpet manufacturers are constantly releasing new textures to compete in the crowded marketplace. Texture is an important aesthetic element in interior design but it’s also key to reduced wear and tear, and comfort under foot.
  5. Colours - Grey still reigns supreme in the carpet world, particularly in corporate settings however green is becoming popular for its restful, botanical presence. Manufacturers, however, make it a point to keep abreast of interiors trends and release new designs seasonally.
  6. Patterns - The availability of a seemingly limitless array of patterns makes it easy to individualise a space and make a statement. Whether the need is to blend the carpet into the background or use a bold pattern to make it a feature, the options are there.
5 advantages of carpeted floors in commercial buildings

Carpet earns its keep for many reasons:
It dampens noise. Particularly in large, open spaces, noise can be a problem. Call centres, busy offices, schools, restaurants and consulting offices benefit from the noise reduction that carpet permits. Chair scraping and foot traffic noise are all but eliminated.
  • It’s an economical solution. When cleaned as per manufacturer’s instructions, carpet can last many, many years and still look fresh.
  • It’s a healthy choice. Carpet behaves as a ‘blotting paper’ for the building’s pollutants including dust, soil and toxins. A regular cleaning schedule and proper cleaning techniques refreshes the carpet, keeping it safe and healthy.
  • It’s comfortable. The cushioning beneath carpet makes it a far more comfortable and ergonomic option. Fatigue can be lessened for users who spend a good part of their time on their feet.
  • It’s aesthetically important. Carpet makes an important statement in a commercial environment. Whether or not it’s a custom design, it reflects a professional image for the organisation.
Carpet cleaning made easy
Regular carpet cleaning and maintenance is all part of an overall asset management plan for any premises. Having the right tools for the job makes it easy and ensures effective results. We recommend the DIRT methodology for keeping carpeted floors clean.
